GANG OF FOUR BOYS AGED 15 TO 17 WHO ‘RAPED WOMAN IN ALLEYWAY’ ARE ACCOMPANIED TO COURT BY THEIR MOTHERS

A gang of teenage boys charged with raping a woman in a town centre alleyway appeared before a district judge today, after being accompanied into court by their mothers.

The boys, two aged 15 and two aged 17, are accused of carrying out the sex attack on December 28 2023.

The victim, who was 16 or over, was allegedly raped in an alleway off St Mary's Memorial Gardens in Newark, Nottinghamshire, at around 7.45pm.

At the time two of the accused teens were 14 years old, while the other two were 16.

One boy, now 17 is charged with one count of rape.

The other 17-year-old is charged with oral rape, rape and attempted anal rape.

Another boy aged 15 is charged with one count of oral rape.

The final boy, also 15, is charged with rape and oral rape of the woman.

The youths were accompanied into court by their mothers, who then sat in the public gallery.

The boys spoke only to confirm their names and addresses during a brief hearing at Nottingham Youth Court, sitting at Nottingham Magistrates' Court.

They were released under strict bail conditions which include an overnight curfew and a condition of residence as well as restrictions on who they can have contact with.

District Judge Gillian Young adjourned the case for a plea and trial hearing at Nottingham Crown Court on April 30.

One of the 17-year-olds also faces another charge of raping a woman in a separate offence in the town on February 18 2023.

Today's hearing hearing comes just months after a different alleged rape incident was also reported in Newark.

In that incident, a total of eight teenage boys - between the ages of 12 and 16 - were arrested in May last year on suspicion of raping a teenage girl on playing fields.

Two of the gang were aged 12 and 13 at the time of the alleged attack earlier that month. Another two were 14, two were 15 and two were 16 at the time of the alleged incident.

Four of the boys were released on bail with strict conditions while the other four remained on conditional bail.
