A man has been charged with terror offences after allegedly trying to get into the Israeli embassy in London with a knife. Scotland Yard officers made an arrest yesterday after a male allegedly wearing a Palestinian keffiyeh head scarf was trying to scale the wall of the building at Kensington's Palace Green.
The Met announced today that Abdullah Sabah Albadri, of no fixed address, had been charged with preparation of terrorist acts and two counts of possession of a pointed or bladed articles.
He appeared at Westminster Magistrates' Court today wearing a black jumper and grey sweatpants where he was remanded in custody until May 7.
Bearded and bespectacled Albadri, who was holding a book, spoke only to confirm his name, date of birth and to that he was of no fixed address.
Kristel Pous, prosecuting, said Albadi was arrested after he tried to scale the wall of the Israeli Embassy.
'He was in possession of two knives in his pocket as well as a martyrdom note that was in his pocket.'
Albadi was arrested on Monday at 5.45pm by officers from the Met's Parliamentary and Diplomatic Protection Command as it is alleged he tried to get into the embassy in Kensington.
Commander Dominic Murphy, head of the Met's Counter Terrorism Command, said: 'We remain in close contact with those based at the Embassy of Israel and we appreciate that these charges will be concerning to them.
'I would like to reassure the public, however, that from our enquiries so far, we are not seeking anyone else in connection with this matter and we do not believe there is any wider threat to the public.
'Although the man has now been charged, we continue with our investigation and would urge the public not to speculate further at this time.'
