DEBUTANT WILSON’S DOUBLE FIRES UNITED TO VICTORY OVER HULL CITY

Manchester United's 18-year-old debutant James Wilson scored twice on his debut as United beat Hull City 1-0 at Old Trafford to bounce back from their shock home defeat against Sunderland at the weekend.

And it was Wilson who made the key breakthrough, lashing home his first PL goal for the club after Marouane Fellaini headed into his path from Adnan Januzaj’s free-kick on the half hour. Wilson then became only the second United player to score a double on debut since Ruud van Nistelrooy in 2001 early in the second half when he tucked in Marouane Fellaini’s saved effort.
Matty Fryatt pulled a goal back for Hull City with a spectacular strike but Robin van Persie, on for Wilson, finished things off with his first goal since February.
United travel to Southampton on Sunday whilst Hull City round off their season at home to Everton.
KEY MOMENTS
Pre-match: Giggs springs huge surprise by handing debuts to young strikers Tom Lawrence and James Wilson and naming himself on the bench alongside the departing Nemanja Vidic. Eldin Jakupovic makes his PL debut in goal for Hull.
2’ – CHANCE FOR WILSON: Januzaj finds Fellaini on the far post and he heads it back across to young Wilson but it’s a great block from Alex Bruce.
3’ – PENALTY SHOUT UNITED: Januzaj tumbles under a challenge from Figueroa who seemed to get little of the ball. Should have been a spot kick.
17’ – JONES INJURED: The United defender goes off clutching his shoulder and leaves for hospital with his arm in a sling. Nemanja Vidic comes on for his 107th and final PL match at Old Trafford for United.
31’ – DEBUT GOAL FOR WILSON: The United debutant gets on the scoresheet after Fellaini headed back Januzaj’s free-kick into his path for him to fire home from close range.
51’ – JAKUPOVIC SAVE: The keeper parries Januzaj’s fierce shot behind for a corner.
61’ – WILSON AT THE DOUBLE: Januzaj crosses to Fellaini and Wilson is there to follow up his saved effort
63’ – FRYATT PULLS ONE BACK: It’s a stunning strike from just outside the box into the bottom corner.
78’ – DE GEA SAVE: He does well to parry a vicious swerving Meyler effort away from goal.
86’ – GOAL UNITED: Van Persie scores his first since February, assisted by Ryan Giggs.
90+2’ – GIGGS EFFORT SAVED: Almost a fairytale ending for Ryan Giggs for what could be his final Premier League game as his beautiful free kick is tipped over the bar.
TALKING POINT: End of the road for Giggs? The 40-year-old delivered an emotional speech at the end of what could be his last home match. He was almost in tears but gave nothing away about his future.

MAN OF THE MATCH
James Wilson (Manchester United): Giggs raised eyebrows with his daring selection of two young up-and-comers, but Wilson repaid the faith shown in him with two sharp reaction strikes.
